What Skills do you need to Work in Marketing?
Marketing jobs call for a wide variety of skills and you will be expected to have at least an overview of most of these. For example, you may not be a designer yourself, but you will be expected to know a good design that will attract people to purchase the product, or service, on sale.
Depending on the industry that you are working in, you may need to physically visit places to impress upon people, the value of the product or service that is being offered; therefore people skills play an important role in marketing jobs.
You will also need to have a good understanding of the role that the internet plays in marketing. The online world moves at an incredibly fast pace, and simply having a website is no longer sufficient. Interaction is needed with potential clients, so working in marketing means utilising the latest innovations, whilst not spending the budget on new innovations that have little or no value.
Perhaps one of the biggest requirements for working in marketing, however, is the ability to accept change. What works at this current time for a successful marketing campaign may be completely redundant in six months’ time. Whilst this can be very challenging, it is also what makes marketing jobs highly sought after.
